Why do I need a firm like
Robcyn?
With many proposals requiring federal permits or authorizations, the legal and
administrative complexities of state and federal land agencies have grown far
beyond what the average land developer or municipal entity can easily manage.
The partners at Robcyn have precise knowledge of case law and pertinent regulations and policies that apply to our clients’ interests. We have more than 35 combined years of experience in the public and private sectors working with federal, state and local government agencies and jurisdictions. This experience has proved invaluable to our clients as they formulate their business strategies and finalize their plans.
If the region you
serve is growing at such an explosive rate, aren’t the government
agencies involved eager to make it easy for buyers?
While Nevada and other parts of the Southwest are experiencing unprecedented
social, economic, environmental, and cultural changes, the federal and
state agencies that manage land are slow to change, and their administrative
processes create challenges for most customers.
Lands managed by the federal government and state governments are not exempt from increasing use and related impacts. Our ability to communicate directly with key agency personnel can save you money while greatly reducing clock time and hassle as you pursue your business goals.
Are we required to be present at all agency meetings?
Robcyn personnel will represent your interest in all
meetings and discussions with agencies relating to project-planning and
implementation. If you prefer not to be present or are unable to attend
meetings, we’ll provide you with prompt and thorough feedback on
the proceedings.
Do you work outside Nevada?
Although we are based in southern Nevada, and do a good portion of our
assignments there, we are actively involved on projects in Arizona, California,
and other states with extensive public land ownership.
What can be done
in cases where we’ve historically run into
roadblocks in securing permits, environmental approvals and land-use
authorizations?
Robcyn is aligned with several national lobbying firms
and can help formulate legislative solutions to potential or existing agency
obstacles. This course of action is used to obtain reviews and approvals
specifically for projects that clearly demonstrate a public benefit. It’s
usually the last option for pursuing necessary federal authorizations.
What are the partners’ personal
reasons for being in this business?
Like many other Nevada residents, our partners believe communities should
be healthy and safe and offer an excellent quality of life. We want our
local economies to have entrepreneurial opportunities and be sustainable
for future generations.
To achieve these goals, we must be smart when developing business strategies that may require permits or authorizations from federal and state regulatory agencies. Robcyn can be helpful in developing these strategies by articulating the need for and describing the public benefit of private sector proposals, with the assurance that each proposal will incorporate best-management practices and appropriate mitigation measures.
Why has it become so difficult to deal with state and federal
land management agencies?
Land and resource management agencies have fewer dollars to manage their
public assets than ever before. Employee numbers are steadily declining,
and each new proposal places an additional burden on existing staffs. Today,
more of the "on the ground" work is being performed by the private
sector and public land stakeholders. Robcyn has the demonstrated
experience, knowledge and skills to work with clients and agency personnel
on proposals that have the greatest chance of gaining agency approvals
in the shortest possible time.
What are some of the ways you help save us time in the process?
The partners at Robcyn have served in key leadership roles
in both the public and private sectors. We know the value of time, and
we prepare ourselves to make the most efficient use of the time allotted
for meetings and discussions. We will not recommend actions that we know
have little chance of being approved.
Where does leadership fit into the equation?
Given the challenges we face in the West and the ever-growing demands on
limited natural resources, we must have strong leadership and direction
at all levels of government and within our society. The partners at Robcyn
give back to communities by serving as board members on local, statewide
and national nonprofit organizations. We understand how to work with
the private and public sectors to achieve common goals.
Will Robcyn
decline projects, or do you simply represent whoever walks through
the door?
We often turn down business opportunities that others would take. For example,
if after talking with a prospective client we conclude that we’re
not the right firm to represent the client's interest, or if we don’t
believe the proposal has any chance for success, we will decline the project.
We’re selective in the projects we accept, choosing to work only
on those proposals we believe have merit and which we can successfully
steer through the existing administrative processes.
